Day 100–Baby Card Box

You guys. We’ve made it. We’ve come to the end of the 100 days. Now, I’m under no illusions of grandeur. I know that nobody was sitting by their computer, waiting for me to post a thing that made me happy that day. But now, we can get to the end of posting every single day, and go back to just posting when I made something, or when I had a fun adventure. So today, with no further ado, I made this card box today. I had too many baby cards, my box was running over. So I took the paper off of a birthday card box, and put the baby paper on.

BabyBox

It ended up pretty cute! I accidentally folded the front part of it, so it’s a little squirrely there, but it’ll flatten down I think.

There it is! 100 entries. Now you guys know what makes me happy, and its usually just…everything!

Day 99–Giant Rice Krispy

Tonight, Husband and I went to dinner at La Jolla Groves, and then grabbed a treat afterwards at the Rocky Mtn Chocolate Factory. I went in for an apple, but I saw this and had to get it:

RiceKrispy

In case you can’t tell, yes, that rice krispy treat is bigger than my hand! It was CRAZY good. I recommend it. I also had some frozen chocolate dipped cheesecake. Also good.

Day 98–Stampin’

Last night we had another fabulous stamp and chat, and made fabulous cards as always!
Cards

Adorable! And I think I ate my weight in fruit, but it was delicious and worth it.

Day 97–Getting Clean

Today I went to Webelos day camp for the 3rd year. Unlike previous years, we went to a new place today. It’s only been in use for about 2 years, and you can tell, the dirt isn’t packed down like it is in places where it’s been used for a while. When I got home:

Dirtylegs

Filth! It felt so nice to get clean after all this.

Day 96–DEATH

This morning I walked in the bathroom, turned on the light and saw:

Spier

Can you see that? It’s just a HUGE spider is all. Now seeing a spider doesn’t make me happy, but killing it did. And yes I know that trapping it and taking it outside to get away and live freeeee is an option, but I kill spiders. It’s in my house, trespassing, I do what I want.

Day 95–Ice Cream Cake

Yesterday, we had a family birthday dinner for Husband, and I tried my hand at making a new dessert. Husband’s family is obsessed with ice cream cakes. They have them for every birthday, every time. Now myself, I hate an ice cream cake. Depending on where you get it, there usually isn’t a cake involved, there’s a crappy crunchy nothing in the middle. But I found a recipe online for an ice cream cake, and it looked pretty good.

IceCkake

It’s basically a layer of chocolate cake, ice cream, Oreo’s, 3 times, and then topped with Cool Whip and more Oreo’s. Delicious it was!

Day 94–A Pup Feeling Better

Since we’ve gotten the carpet in, Cookie has been sick every day. She is sick at night, she is sick during the day, both vomiting and…otherwise. Finally, yesterday morning, we had decided that it was a good idea to take her to the vet. Husband thought it out, and googled new carpet and dogs, and we found that dogs get sick after putting in new carpet, they can smell the fumes longer than we can, and it makes them sick. So we opened every window and door in the house today, and made sure Cookie was outside for a chunk of the morning. Then last night, when we were relaxing, she seemed to be doing better than she had all week. She was super snuggly.

She wouldn’t let go of her toy there, no matter how hard I tried. But she was a cutie, and luckily today she hasn’t been sick, so maybe she’s better! Fingers crossed, everyone.

Day 93–Birthday Celebrations

Today is Husband’s 30th birthday, so we spent the day in mellow celebration. We had a chill morning of airing the house of the carpet fumes (still, those are hanging out after these many days) we saw a movie this afternoon, 22 Jump Street. Then, we went and got an ice cream cone.

IMG_8718

And got some cake for later.

IMG_8719

We couldn’t choose on flavors, so here we have a Spumoni one, a Root Beer float, a Chocolate Fudge Sundae, and Elsa Vanilla (just vanilla, but why not capitalize on a recent beloved movie?). We then went to dinner,

IMG_8720

When Husband gets to choose, we usually get sushi. I did my best here, but these ones were so fishy tasting, I couldn’t stand it. Luckily in addition to the sushi I ordered us some beef, so I could just eat those. We came back to the house, and the neighbors were shooting off some fireworks, so we got to enjoy those. Happy birthday, Husband!

Day 92–Independence Day

Happy Independence Day! Today I did what I do every year, run the Freedom 10K, decked out in my finest.

IMG_8712

Some boy on the course called me Tinkerbell. I think more like PatrioticTinkerbell is more like it. Hope everyone has a fabulous day, and enjoy the fireworks!

Day 91–Peach Cobbler

For some reason today, I really wanted some peach cobbler. My sister talked about how she was making one, and it just sounded like a good summer treat. I don’t really have the patience to make one, or the time today necessarily, so I wanted to find a cheater recipe. Pinterest delivered, naturally. Here’s how I made it:

1 box yellow cake mix
2 cans of sliced yellow peaches
1 stick butter, melted

Preheat the oven to 350. Put the peaches (with juice!) in the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the peaches, top with the melted butter. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

So, easy-peasy. And it was super tasty. IMG_8716

This might actually be the “before” picture, and I can’t find the after! You get the idea, though.

Day 90–Left Treats

So today, I spent the whole day cleaning. I put everything back where it was, vacuumed every surface, mopped the other surfaces, and it took forever. While I was doing the stairs, I glance down and see this:

Oreo

I have no idea how it got here, I don’t know who did this. But there it is, a perfectly cut in half Oreo. Maybe a ghost? Maybe a kid came in, I don’t know. But underneath it, you can see the new carpet!

Day 89–Canada Day

Happy Canada Day! In addition to putting in the carpet, we’re also celebrating the fabulous day. We had some fun, food, and fireworks. Husband came home with a whole slew of them

Fireworks

And then that evening, we lit them off. We had some really good ones.

Firwork

Hope you celebrated it too!

Day 88–New Carpets

We’re getting new carpets tomorrow, and we spent the evening moving the furniture out of the rooms we’re doing first.

Emptyroom

Hmmm…can you tell where the rug was? They came and set up everything for the installation, and our driveway looked like this all day:

carpet

Can’t wait for the carpet to be done!

Day 87–Taquitos

Tonight for dinner I made some taquitos. Specifically, Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chicken Taquitos. That’s a mouthful! But they were pretty easy. You put into your crockpot:

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cumin
salt + pepper
8 ounces cream cheese
1/3 cup water

Let those cook for like, 4 hours, and then shred and put back in the juices for a couple of minutes. Roll a spoonful of mixture into a small tortilla and add a handful of Mexican cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Delicioso!

Taquitos

There would be six on the tray, but I ate one as soon as they came out of the oven. These are tasty.

Day 86–Round Up

Today is the Lehi RoundUp 10K. Or, as I was told about 2 days before the race, the RoundUp 5 Mile run. For some reason, they decided to make this year a 5 mile instead of the standard and previous 6. No prob. PJ and I showed up, and noticed there were a lot less people than there usually are, but I didn’t know why. It wasn’t until they made an announcement announcing that we were in competition with Ragnar that I realized that was why. Our shirts were pretty cool this year.

LehiRace

I finished the race in 52:00 even, not too fast, but not too shabby. I was 3rd in my age group, which I’ll chalk up to their being so few people there. There was a girl that got first in her age group, and thus the medal, but she cheated on the race course. She was in front of us, and she didn’t run the whole course, but I didn’t know what to do when she ran, so I just let her get her medal of lies. But it was a good race, and I got to eat some waffles afterwards, which finished it off quite nicely.

Day 85–Hairless Adventures

A long time ago, I bought some Veet.

veet1

For those that don’t know, Veet is like Nair – a cream to help  you remove your unwanted hair. Because I have some of the hairiest arms ever (Which you can’t tell, really, because it’s so blonde) I wanted to try this. So, I slathered it on, without rubbing it in, per the instructions. I won’t lie, I was terrified, I’ve never done this before!

Veet

I waited the allotted 5-10 minutes (actually 6 1/2) and wiped it off. You couldn’t tell in a picture, so I didn’t record it, but it came off! My arms are now hairless! It feels so weird not having any hair on them. Every time something rubs against them, or when my hair rubs against it, it feels so cool! I want to try this with my legs, if I can wait for the hair to grow out long enough, but this was so easy and fantastic, I really dig it.

Day 84–A Thank You

Yesterday, I was just hanging out and the doorbell rang. Usually, when this happens, I assume it’s a scout, because they stop by so often, and usually, I take my time. So I went to the door, and found one of the girls that was one of my “children” on trek. She was holding a note and a small plate of cookies. She handed them over and we chit-chatted for a moment, mostly about how clean we both were, and laughing about it, and then she left. I brought it inside, and opened the envelope,

thanks

It was a sweet thank you note! She thanked us for being her parents on trek, and I thought that was really sweet. Her mother also wrote a note in there, and I felt really good, like maybe we weren’t as bad as parents as I thought (since really, we didn’t do much except just hang out with the kids, hardly disciplining or anything) so now, I think I could take care of people in this sort of situation, should it arise. And as a side note, these cookies were delicious.

Day 83–Shirley Temple Cupcakes

The other day, I saw a recipe for Shirley Temple cupcakes online, and after looking at it I thought, I can do better. So I created my own recipe. I did a ginger ale cake, topped with a grenadine buttercream frosting. Let’s break it down.

Cupcake recipe:
1/2 cup butter softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup ginger ale

Preheat oven to 350°F. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and mix. Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and ground ginger; set aside.  In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup ginger ale and 1/2 cup sour cream (mixture will fizz and bubble a little).  Add flour and liquid alternately, beginning and ending with flour.  Batter will be thick. Using scoop, fill cupcake liners 1/2 full. Bake for 17-22 minutes. I got 23 cupcakes out of this. And then

:
Frosting recipe:
4 cups powdered sugar
1 cup butter
3 TB grenadine syrup

Cream the butter, add the powdered sugar. When mixed together, add the 3 (maybe 4, depending on desired consistency) TB of grenadine. Adjust the syrup or powdered sugar, depending on how you like it.

I frosted the cupcakes, and then took a bite, and…

It didn’t taste like I thought it would! I tasted the ginger A LOT and I couldn’t really taste the cherry all that much. But then later, I asked Husband what he thought, and he couldn’t taste the ginger, but could taste the cherry, so I don’t know who’s right here. But it was a good attempt, I’ll just adjust things in the future, should I make these again.

Day 82 - ACT

Now, I let you all know that I was taking the ACT a week or so ago. They told us that our scores could be available as soon as the 23rd, so I checked it out, and I did get my score already!

I

Got

a

23!

Yes, I know that the top score is a 36. But for a 30 year old woman, who graduated 13 years ago, that’s not too bad!

ACT

So now, I have all the materials needed to start school in the fall. Wish me luck!

Day 81–Gnome

When we got back from trek, I noticed that our lawn had been mowed. This seems to happen a lot lately. It’s not that we’re lazy, it’s that our lawn mower broke. And instead of getting a new one, Husband keeps saying that he can fix the old one. Of course, he’s so busy he never has time, and then our lawn just gets longer and longer, until the neighbors can’t take it anymore, and take care of it for us. I know, it’s a bad cycle. And if we had a working mower, it would be avoided, but you see how it circles around. So not only was the front lawn mowed (which is usually all they do) but now, the back yard had been mowed, and weeded. They really went the extra mile! I wish I knew who to thank in this case. Then, I looked a little closer at the yard, and noticed that a small guest has joined us.

Gnome

This little guy, and a small light, had joined us as well! Thanks, neighbors, we appreciate the love you’re sending.
