Christmas is on the Way

I finally have my tree up! I know, it's not even December yet, but my goal was to have it up the day after Thanksgiving. I, unfortunately, had to work that day, and the Saturday after, so I didn't have much time. I just had to do a little by little each day until it was done today.

Yes, our tree is in the kitchen ... because that's the spot we have for it haha this house has a very odd layout. But I love it, and it's a great place, and central viewing as soon as you walk in the front door. And now the rest of the house is complete, so it's time to celebrate the holidays!

Happy Christmas Decoration Day!

Well friends, now that it's finally December, I can decorate for Christmas. I mean, you can't do it before Thanksgiving, that poor holiday gets ignored enough. So yesterday, on the 1st, I had Husband put up the tree, so that I could decorate today. So, I decorated with my usual brown and gold theme, and when I finished I was like...meh. I just didn't like it. I don't know what was wrong with it but I just hated it and I was so so sad. So then I decided, why not change it up? So off to the Hobby Lobby for me, and I decided to change the theme to red and gold. I came home and redecorated, and voila! I loved it!

I love it! I wish you could see the new tree topper a little better, but hey, that's fine.
And then, my mantle ended up being minimalist this year, and I also love it.
And now that everything is ready, I'm ready for the holidays!

How to Decorate for Halloween

Today, we were putting up the decorations for Halloween. We hit a snag with our ghost decorations, a whole bunch of them were broken. As we were trying to figure out if we should fix them or just not use them this year, Darth had some great ideas for decorations:

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

At least, now in my house. Today Husband and I put up our tree, and some decorations. We didn't put up all the decorations because turns out that the little jokers in my house now grab everything they can grab, so I'm not putting stuff within arms reach anymore. So I put up my tree, and my mantle stuff, and my letters, and I feel appropriately decorated.

Let's get our Christmas celebrations on!

Feels Like Christmas

We are super on top of things this year, and basically, we decorated the whole house here in about an hour or so. Husband helped me with loads of it, so now, we’re ready for the holiday! Decorations-wise, at least.

Here’s our fabulous tree, and then I made a collage of the other stuff we’ve done.

We have a couple of mini trees around the house, plus assorted cute Christmas things. Happy Holidays!

A House Decorated

Today, when I got home from work, I saw this as soon as I drove up.

Garage

I was like, what? What is this? I got out of my car, and started walking towards the door, and that’s when I noticed the window.

Window

You can’t really read it, but it was all nice things. Also, my favorite sign:

Door

Is there anything better than the way children spell words? No. But this was a really nice end of a good day of work, but a hard day of work. I appreciate my sisters in law for thinking of me today.

Decoration!

Christmastime is here everyone! I don’t know if you’ve noticed, with the weather going cold, and the stores stocked with holiday goodies, and Christmas music piping in from everywhere. Yesterday, I decided, today was the day I’ll get the decorations up. Mostly because we leave this Saturday for a faraway land, so if we didn’t do it last night, it wouldn’t get done. We had a real tree last year, but that was A LOT of work, so this year, we went the fake tree route. The work was part of the reason (for me) but the other part is, we’ll be gone for a week, so if we have a real tree, with no one here to water it for that long, we’ll likely come back to a dead tree, and sad Christmas hopes. So we went to the local Hobby Lobby, because I heard the trees were half off. They were! But still a little pricey, so we went to WalMart to see if they had any for cheapers. They did! So we bought a nice one, went home, and started working. Husband started setting the tree up, and I was putting up the decorations all over the house. I got the mantle stuff up

and felt good about it. Then I did some random stuff that I put around on the tables, and the walls, and random doorknobs, and then I did the garland on the bannister. I got done with my stuff quickly (because I am a champ) and Husband was still putting up the tree. I sat and watched for a minute

and then thought “maybe I should be helping instead of just sitting here”, so I started to help. We got the tree up shortly thereafter, and I vacuumed up all the stray fake pine needles while Husband put the lights on it. And now, we have a naked lit tree:

When I got home from work today, I immediately set about putting the ornaments up. It took me a while to pick the colors out of my varied colors, but finally, I did. And here, my friends, is the final product:

And now, my house is ready (minus a few more things to be put up, but they’ll come in time) and I am ready. Now, I just need to start my Christmas shopping.

Today I am thankful that my tree and decorations are put up, so I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

Birthday Fun

Today is my pop’s birthday. He is 60 years old, can you believe it? We decorated his office last night before we went to work – we being Chelle and myself. I chose a Star Wars theme this year, for a couple of reasons. One was, pops is a Star Wars fan, so of course it was a good idea, and the second was because there wasn’t enough superhero stuff to fill an office. I really wanted an Avengers theme, but alas, I couldn’t. Here’s what the office looked like when we finished:
He has 3 desks in his office, and of course, we had to decorate all 3.
Chelle made this pudding tower while I streamered the desk.
I wish you could see the litte Darth thing in the middle better. It was Lego Star Wars, so freaking adorable.
This is the door. Originally, this was a tablecloth that I ripped in half, and taped to the door.

Pretty cool, eh? And yes, the decorations are juvenile, but that's the purpose of it, it's just so much fun. So, Happy Birthday, Pops! Eat some cake, eh?

Food Tuesday

Today, I don’t really have much to talk about in terms of story, but I have a couple of pictures to share (and preserve for future generations) so I’ve decided to make it a picture/food Tuesday.

This first one is a picture of the cupcakes I made last night. We recently got Boo’d in my neighborhood, and this is what I made to give to others. I like them – plus I think they are delicious.

cupcakes

There’s no real recipe to share here, as they’re just plain white cake cupcakes, with black, orange, and white sprinkles baked into them (like Funfetti!) and then decorated with plain vanilla frosting, dyed orange. And on top, sprinkled with more white, black and orange sprinkles with some bats and pumpkin sprinkles tossed in for good measure. So easy. I should have included a picture of the cupcake wrappers – they were Halloween-y, with pumpkins and bats on there too.

This second one is what I did today at work. We (Chelle and I) were taking a tiny break for a little snackage. We pulled out some Mini Triscuits (so good – and totally tiny and fun) and some EZCheese (you know, the kind that sprays out of the bottle!) and had some deliciousness. After a few minutes, I decided to spell my name onto the crackers.

Vieve

It’s harder to do than you think, because these crackers are dang small. I should have included something next to them, so you could see how small they are, scale wise. They were as good to eat as it was fun to make them.

Anyway, enjoy today’s pointless blog, and I encourage you to seek out the Mini Triscuits.

O Christmas Tree...

Today is the Sunday after Thanksgiving, which in our house is decorate the tree day. I chose my colors carefully, yesterday, and today, I set about putting them up. It was a pretty easy tree this year, the only part that took help was winding the lights around the tree, and the silver chain, but other than that, it was pretty good. I chose for my colors silver and teal, and it looks pretty good together. There's not really much else to write on it, so here's a pic of all my troubles:

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is now kosher to celebrate Christmas. Start your music, decorate your houses, it's now fine to do so. My mom puts up the tree the day after Thanksgiving-there is no waiting. I am in charge of decorating it, and I usually put it off for a few days or week or so, so we just have an empty tree in the living room. This year, I had time to decorate it today. I choose a theme for the tree every year-just a color theme, and this year's theme was black and silver. I know, it's weird not to have Christmas-y colors, but I like to keep things unique.
It took me a couple of hours to complete, but finally, I finished it, and stepped back to see how it looked. If I do say so myself, it looks pretty good. Unfortunately, the black doesn't show up that well against the tree, but it still looks okay. I like the way the two colors look together, and I like that it's not the normal colors. If you look on the tree, there are a few bits of color there, those are the ornaments we made as kids that have our pictures on them. No matter what colors I choose every year, those ornaments are always included-I just love them.

I'm glad to be done with it for this year, decorating the tree is always so stressful-I think I put too much pressure on myself to make it look perfect, which I know it doesn't need to do. But I like what I did, and I'm looking forward to the next time I get to decorate a tree. Which is tomorrow! (more on that later...)
