Summerfest 2019

Y'all it's time for Summerfest! Today we hit up the festival and it was a blast. We did some rides, ate some delicious junk food, and sunburned our bodies.

We took the small ones on a "big kid" ride and I was so worried they would fly right out of it with how small they were! But they were in high spirits and ended up loving it. We had so much fun! Can't wait to do it again.

Summer Begins!

Guys, my summer has started. Naturally, I am celebrating. Unfortunately for myself, the summer semester starts back up again in 2 days. So really, my two days of school-free summer starts today, and I will take advantage!

But, this will be a busy summer. I have 2 classes over the summer, and in 3 weeks time, I will be off to London. I am going with a friend of mine, to watch her kids as she has work stuff over there for a bit. I can't believe my good luck in getting this, and I think it'll be so great!

Directly after my London adventure, I figured that since I was in the area, I would make a jaunt to Ireland, so I'll be heading there for about a week. Excitement!

Directly after these trips, I have 3 days to rest, and then on to trek! I am a Ma again this year, and I am just praying it goes better than last time!

And then, a few weeks home to recover, and off to girls camp! We're trying a new location this year, I hope it makes camp different and fun.

After girls camp, a small family trip, just a small one for the summer, before my SIL goes on her mission to Germany. This should be fun, and I'm looking forward to our last memory-making trip before she leaves for 18 months.

So! A busy summer starts this week. I look forward to all the fun, and hopefully I'll keep this updated with the good times!

Summer Begins

Guy, this week is the official start of summer! My finals were last week, finishing on Wednesday. But then I had things still going on and whatnot, so this week was the start. I am ready for the break, after going for 3 straight semesters. I have a couple of weeks here for some relaxing and cleaning (which I've already started today, and love it) and then I have familial obligations for a few weeks, so that'll take up some time. I am excited for this small break! I just want the opportunity to read, basically. I haven't read a single book for pleasure since like, winter break, so I am just so ready to be able to finish as many books as I can this summer. Plus, this little guy and I will hang out for the break too, and that'll be loads o fun.

Have a good summer, everyone, no matter when it begins.

This isn't my first time

I love firsts. They can be small, like the first snowfall of the season, or first day of soccer season, or they can be big, like the time I crossed the finish line in my first 5k. No matter what it is, it’s a great feeling. I have had another first in the last couple of days-my first sunburn of the season. It’s not a bad burn-that’ll come later, no doubt, but having one means I’m laying the groundwork. Soon, my arms and legs will no longer be as white as a sheet. I’ll look healthy, and a good color, instead of the sickly pale I look during the winter.

I got the burn doing a run. Because of my lazy weekend (see previous post) my Sunday was way slowed down. I decided to eat a big breakfast (ok, it wasn’t that big. It was like, a bowl of cereal, a banana, and a biscuit.) and wait for a run. Three hours later, I was thinking it could be time to run, because I was kind of sick of just lying around. It was 11:40 and I thought that maybe it was too hot to run, but I went anyways.

It was warm-but nothing bad. I didn’t really feel the heat of the sun or anything, I just felt the heat in general, but it wasn’t unbearable, until about 45 minutes into the run, then I just was hit with how hot and tired I was, so I decided to call it a day, and went back home. I noticed I was red, but I figured that was just from the run, and thought nothing of it. It wasn’t until later that night when I looked in the mirror that I saw that it was a burn. Nice and red my skin was-but only on my face, neck and shoulders, of course. Just where the tank top wasn’t. I’m glad I got some sun, and having this burn now will make it so that later it won’t be as bad (I hope.) And of course, I have a few good tan lines, one from where my watch was, and the other from where my MP3 player was. I’ll have to get rid of those at my first chance!

Summer: Not just for kids anymore

I am so excited that warm weather is finally here. No more having to bulk up to go outside, no more crappy driving because there’s snow/ice on the ground and no more freezing all the time. (Ok, technically, I still am cold in my house. I can’t believe it-but I’m still wearing sweaters and stuff in there) This is my favorite time of the year-summer. I can’t wait to start my summer trips, and the swimming, and the hiking and everything you can do in the warm weather. I have waited so long to bust out the summer clothes-the tank tops, flip flops, and shorts. I’m already wearing the flip flops-I need to get my feet used to them again!
To kick off the “start” of summer, PJ and I went on a hike yesterday. It started out as FHE for our singles ward (we never go to activities, this was one we’d know we’d enjoy, being hiking) but when that ended up not happening the way we wanted (the ward failed to realize that there is still snow up in the mountains. They chose to hike the Y trail, we chose to do our own thing) we had to make plains of our own. We went up Dry Canyon, and it was a good hike. I gotta tell you- I always feel like I’m in such good shape and hiking always seems like a good idea until I actually go hiking. Then, as I’m gasping for breath and a lot of my muscles are screaming at me to stop, I think, hiking is stupid. Who chose this as an activity? Why can’t we just turn around? But then, we keep going, and have an awesome time. We saw lots of deer, and a turchicken (I couldn’t tell if it was a chicken or a very small turkey, so I am inventing my own animal, a turchicken. Never has anything tasted so good) We met a lot of nice people up there-most of who had a dog. Good dogs, this lot. When we got to the top of whatever trail we were on, we looked down on the valley, and we could see so much! It was all so beautiful-but I had left my camera in my car. PJ tried to take some photos with her cell phone camera, but they didn’t turn out as one would hope they would. But that’s ok-we can always hike back up it again, to get some good ones.
I am excited for all the stuff that’ll be happening this summer. I’m hoping to learn to snorkel and I want to swim a lot more this year than last. We have some great trips “idea-ed” out. We bought an annual pass for every national park this year-and I intend to use the crap out of that sucker. I will hit up every place that is available to me. And don’t worry, folks-I’m sure you’ll hear about all that I do!

There is one bad thing about having warm weather. I got a delicious candy bar from Papa Parry-and it melted in the car while we were hiking.
