New Phone Time

Husband I decided that after more than 3 years of marriage, might as well get onto a family plan of cell phones. Of course, we switched to his plan, his service being better, and because of this, I had to get a new phone, you can’t bring your old phone to a new place, apparently. So, with the Verizon phone switching program, I could turn my iPhone to them, and the would give me one for free! A victory, I say. So finally, the phone came, and my AT&T contract was up. So today, I went to the Verizon store to get my phone turned on.

It is a really weird switch, going from the 5 to the 6. The iPhone 6 is much bigger, much skinner, and wider. I am not used to it yet, but hopefully I will be soon. It took me a long time to get everything back to the way it was. It deleted all the music off my phone, and reset all my contacts and information. After many much hours, it’s finally back to the way I want it!

A Day Like the Amish

Today, I knew what it meant to be without the modern technologies we all love. Ok, that might be a bit of an overstatement. But I felt sort of like it. Let me explain.

This past Saturday, my MIL came over, to give me a present, she said. She came over and presented me with the funds/opportunity to get myself an iPhone 5. She knew I wanted one, and hadn’t given me a birthday present, so this was a joint birthday/Christmas present. I got online, and ordered one, and after a few trials, I had one delivered to the Apple Store in Murray, able to be picked up today. Pops and I hopped in his tiny SmartCar and drove up there. We got the phone, and as the guy was checking us out, he mentioned my phone would be deactivated. I assumed he meant that it would be when I plugged the new phone into my iTunes, but no, he meant right then. Since I wasn’t going home just yet (this was about noon, after all, I was only taking my lunch break) I wasn’t going to plug in my phone. Which meant that my old phone was obsolete, and my new phone wasn’t working. So really, I was cut off, communication-wise.

After the day of not having the phone (and going through some withdrawals, I’ll admit it) I made it home. I plugged in the phone and after a good long while of updating my phone, adding the stuff, etc, it was complete. …Except that my apps didn’t show up, the phone apparently needed another update. So I did that, and huzzah, my apps arrived! …Sadly, none of my music or movies made the switch over. So pretty much, I was short of some things. I spent some of the evening adding movies/TV shows, and some of the evening adding music. Of course, its not like I want all of my music on here, only some, so I just went through my library and had to hand pick the music I wanted. It took a good long while, and finally, I just gave up, because I had other things to do.

So far, I’m enjoying this phone. I’m really loving Siri, I’ve told her who’s who in my phone, and I’ve asked her to call me Team Vieve, which she does. I don’t know why, but that tickled me quite plainly. I’ve asked her questions, had her send texts, and told her she did a great job, and the fact that she answers me like she’s a human makes me laugh a little harder than I probably should. I sadly don’t have a case yet (that will arrive on Wednesday) so I feel like I need to handle it with kid gloves and be so careful. But I am psyched for my new phone, and glad that everything is finally on here.

Today, I am thankful for a dad who up and drove to Murray with me – even though he probably didn’t want to.

Miscellaneous Monday Mayhem

On Saturday, Husband and I went to the mall; we were looking at sporting equipment for his office. I stayed and looked at treadmills, ellipticals, etc for as long as I could stand it, then I left him to get a pedicure. My toenails were looking quite shady, and they were sharp and pointy on one of them, so I was afraid I’d scratch someone (myself) with it. So I was about finished when Husband finally wandered on over to me, and had a seat in a chair next to me, to wait for me to be finished. As a joke, we (the pedicurist and I) told him that he should get one as well. After a little while, he actually agreed! He didn’t get any color on his nails (sissy) but he did get one done. I sneakily took a picture of him relaxing, before they touched his feet.Once she got going on his feet, he kept giggling, the entire time. That was actually pretty funny to witness. And maybe he’ll keep getting them…and next time, it could be color.

Today, my iPhone broke. It randomly turned off, but then it couldn’t turn on. So after a healthy amount of Googling, I was still at a loss, as none of those websites actually do anything for you. So then I tried to get onto apple.com, to see if there is any help on that website. The website wouldn’t actually help me until I put in my serial number. But…I can’t get to my serial number, because my phone won’t turn on. The site said the number was on the back of the phone. After much searching, I still couldn’t figure out which of the group of numbers was the serial number, so I gave up and called them. Of course, they had an automated computer voice at the beginning, who told me I couldn’t be helped unless I had a serial number, and again, I fought with the automated voice until it finally gave up and sent me to a live person. After explaining my problem, I was told I had to pay $30 to get help on the phone (since I didn’t buy a protection plan), or I could go to the nearest Apple store. The nearest Apple store, in case anyone is wondering, is in SLC, in the Gateway. I am not driving there, because I’ve done this before, at Christmas. I get there, and they inform me that since I don’t have the plan, they can’t help me either. I’m out, thanks. So I pay the money, since at this point, my phone had been frozen for about 40 minutes. So after explaining my problem yet again, we tried a few things, which I had already tried, and had told her I tried. But when I tried it again, it worked this time, which I thought was ridiculous, and the conspiracy theorist in me told me that they do this on purpose, just to get my money. But that’s crazy…right? The gal that was helping me asked me for the serial number once the phone turned back on, and I gave it to her. I asked where it was located on the back of the phone, since the website and computer-generated guy told me it was there. It wasn't! They are liars! They shouldn't tell you that it's on the back if it isn't! And I get that I should be glad that the phone is working, but still. The lies.

There's an app for that!

I love iPhone. There is so much it can do. I can be anywhere and get any kind of information. I can check Facebook, play games, book a flight, pretty much anything. I am always checking for new apps, things that are not really worth anything, but can waste my time nonetheless. I've recently stumbled upon a new app that just makes life worth living.
It's called Talking Roby, and he just brightens my day. The purpose of the app is really unknown, I think it's mostly just to be a time-waster. But whenever I need a pick me up, I just open the app and he makes me smile. When you open the app, the first thing Roby does is wave at you and say hi in his little robot voice. It's so cute, I'm immediately happier. Then, there's a few things he does that I play with. If you rub his belly, he giggles a little, then swoons and puts his hands over his heart like he's in love. If you poke him anywhere, he spins around, and sometimes falls over. When you make the phone move, he'll sway with it, making a noise like he's about to fall over. And one of the best things of all, is he talks. You type in what you want him to say, and he'll say it. If you talk to him, he'll repeat what you say. It's cute.
Now, I'm not sure why a simple talking robot brings me such joy, but he does. When I need a smile, I just turn to Roby, and he takes care of me. I appreciate all he does for me.

And, as an FYI, I typed this whole entry from my iPhone. It took forever.
